Basna Biochar - More than just one impact !

BASNA pioneers BIOCHAR in Serbia, developing animal feed additives that sequester CO2, reduce methane emissions, and boost milk production in dairy cows.

Founded in Serbia in 2010 with Swiss expertise, BASNA pioneered Biochar application in Europe. Due to its high carbon values and low H/C ratio, our Biochar demonstrates superior resilience as a carbon sink. Our products for dairy cows contain Biochar (90 %) and enzymes (non-GMO) which showed 18 % methane reduction and improved milk production and enhanced fodder conversion. We are still the only Biochar producer in Serbia, where environmental issues are widely neglected. Our dedication goes beyond Biochar production, as we actively promote sustainability in farmer forums, collaborate with universities, advocate for gender equality, and contribute to rural employment. Our efforts in these areas have been widely recognized through numerous awards we have received. Founded in 2010, with Swiss expertise, we pioneered the application of Biochar in Europe. In 2016, and since, BASNA has been certified by the European Biochar Certificate (EBC) as one of the first producers. Over the years, we have learned that not all Biochars perform equally well as carbon sinks or in various other applications. Our Biochar shows an exceptionally low H/C ratio, indicating long-lasting resilience in the soil for several centuries. Furthermore, we have discovered that our Biochar possesses excellent properties as an animal feed additive and helps mitigate several environmental challenges our civilization is facing nowadays.Through independent laboratory and in vivo tests, our Biochar products have demonstrated the following: ➢ 18% methane reduction in dairy cows (tested in Finland) ➢ improved milk production by 2 liters.➢ It enhanced fodder conversion for calves, cows, and pigs ➢ It promoted improved rumen development in newborn calves.➢ It reduced stress in pig farming.➢ It exhibited a 99% absorption rate of aflatoxin.Today, BASNA is still the only Biochar producer in Serbia, a country where environmental issues are still largely neglected. We are dedicated to spreading awareness and working diligently to protect the environment. At BASNA, we understand the importance of collaboration and knowledge-sharing. Through collaborations with various universities in Serbia and institutes in Slovenia, we actively engage with young intellectuals to exchange knowledge about the numerous benefits that Biochar offers. Our commitment to sustainability and the environment extends beyond our Biochar production. We actively engage in initiatives to promote sustainable agricultural practices and social welfare.Led by a woman, Basna stands as one of the few exceptions in Serbia where gender equality is practiced and respected. In the depopulating rural area in southern Serbia, we provide employment opportunities for individuals who face challenges in finding work. Our efforts and dedication have been recognized through various prestigious awards, highlighting our commitment to excellence and sustainable practices. ➢ 2018: UNDP Climate Smart Urban Development Challenge Award: Climate Smart Innovation Pioneers.➢ 2020: Special Recognition for eco-innovation from the Association of Business Women in Serbia.➢ 2021: The Serbian Chamber of Commerce awarded "Basna doo" the National Award for Socially Responsible Business George Weifert 2020.➢ 2022: International Economic Forum Perspective and Society Promo Global Zagreb recognized us for our ideas, innovations, and investments in entrepreneurship in Central and Southeastern Europe in 2021.➢ 2023: Company Wall CRYSTAL PLAQUE for 3 years GOLD EXCELLENCE.
