Australia’s Biodiverse Reforestation Carbon Offsets restore forest habitats and ensure carbon storage for more than 100 years.
Carbon Neutral Australia (CNA) is a charity that has been developing projects for habitat restoration and biodiverse reforestation across the Yarra Yarra Biodiversity Corridor in Western Australia for over 20 years. CNA is a recognized offsets entity under Australia’s Emission Reduction Fund and is responsible for developing methodologies for Biodiverse Reforestation Carbon Offsets (BRCOs) with their internal registry. The methodology ensures that landowners plant trees, manage their land in the right manner, and track the creation of these offsets. All BRCOs are verified by third parties to ensure sequestration exceeds 100 years. BRCO planting sites will sequester 120 to 180 tonnes of CO2 per hectare (conservative estimate) over 50 years. Each site is independently monitored and reported for health, survival and carbon storage at least twice in the first five years. Biodiverse Reforestation Carbon Offsets support new plantings which may take a few years to sequester the full amount of carbon. Hence, Carbon Neutral independently pairs an equivalent number of verified carbon credits from an international (Climate Active-compliant) project to satisfy claims of carbon or climate neutrality using BRCOs. This means that every BRCO comes with a 2nd carbon offset credit from a project approved by the UN Clean Development Mechanism, or CDM. Purchasing Australian BRCOs supports both the improvement of a degraded environment in Australia and emissions abatement requirements through the paired UN CDM credit.
