Burn Stoves Project in Kenya

The BURN Cookstoves project promotes women empowerment through the increased adoption of fuel-efficient cookstoves and improves the lives of more than 1.3 million households in Kenya.

Healthy Kitchens in Kenya uses cookstoves developed by Burn Stoves to improve the health and incomes of families throughout Kenya by reducing cook time, fuel use, and money spent acquiring fuel for household cooking.\nMost Kenyan households spend a significant portion of their time and income acquiring fuel for cooking. Often using locally-sourced firewood and charcoal for fuel, Kenyan families often exhaust wood supplies around their townships and villages. This causes many families to travel further from their home to collect wood fuel. Women and girls are often tasked with collecting wood fuel, which causes difficulty for children and nursing infants left at home as well as takes girls away from attending school.\nThis project uses carbon finance, through the sale of carbon offset credits measured by the Gold Standard Methodology for Domestic Energy Efficiency (GS TPDDTEC V2.). Without the sale of carbon credits, this project would be unable to reach communities that are most impacted by dwindling wood fuel supplies and provide the income needed for participating families to support the transition away from dirtier and less efficient cookstoves.
