CarboHeroes utilizes a circular economy model, transforming residues into biochar to remove 100 million tons of CO2 by 2050.
--- **Project Highlights** - A circular economy approach transforms residues into biochar, a key technology endorsed by UN and IPCC. - CarboHeroes targets 100 million tons of CO2 removal by 2050 through sustainable agriculture practices. - The pilot project in Costa Rica contracts 66,000 tons of wood residue annually, generating 51,195 CO2eq Carbon Credits. **Project Description** CarboHeroes is at the forefront of combating the climate crisis with its circular economy model, focusing on biochar production. Acknowledged by authoritative sources like the UN and IPCC as a key technology, biochar is central to CarboHeroes' mission of removing 100 million tons of CO2 by 2050. The innovative solution involves a circular economy model, utilizing residues and waste to produce biochar—a sustainable agricultural product with substantial carbon reduction effects. The biochar is incorporated into the soil, enhancing soil health and sequestering significant carbon amounts. CarboHeroes has established strong collaborations with local farmers in Latin America, Africa, and South-East Asia, turning waste into value streams, contributing to carbon removal, and supporting natural habitats and agricultural businesses. Costa Rica serves as the pilot case due to its robust legal framework, investment security, existing infrastructure, and ecological mindset. CarboHeroes is currently constructing the first pyrolysis plants in Costa Rica, with 66,000 tons of contracted wood residue annually. This effort is anticipated to yield 17,838 tons of biochar, equivalent to 51,195 CO2eq Carbon Credits annually (C-Sink factor 2.87). Partnerships with farms, particularly those associated with the Seca washing stations (Neumann Coffee Group), ensure the incorporation of biochar into the soil at no cost for farmers. This contributes to increased soil health, reduced mineral fertilizer use, lower GHG emissions, and strengthens the independence of small farmers. CarboHeroes aims to expand operations, incorporating cascara, sugar cane residue, and pineapple residue, with existing LOIs, proposals, and pre-contracts across the value chain. Seeking $10 million for the first pyrolysis facilities in Costa Rica, CarboHeroes has secured a commitment from a Swiss Private Bank family office, marking a significant step toward realizing this impactful and scalable initiative.
